Gingivitis And Why You Should Be Afraid

“Gingivitis is the gateway between healthy gums and irreversible damage from periodontal disease.” - Dr Mike Pierquet

Introduction:

You’ve heard the term gingivitis.

You’ve seen all kinds of commercials for products to fight it. Maybe your dentist has talked to you about it.

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) and numerous other health organizations tell us that 75% of adults have it, and that it’s the second or third most common disease in the entire world.

For something so common, it can be startling how many people really don’t understand what gingivitis is or how it damages not just your mouth, but your whole body as well.

Here is what we know:

  • By definition, gingivitis means that the gum tissues are bleeding.

  • When gums bleed, it means that INFLAMMATION is present.

  • Inflammation is a known risk factor for most of the diseases that kill us.

  • A high percentage of people do not know when they have bleeding gums.

DO YOU SEE THE PROBLEM HERE?

What is gingivitis?

Gingivitis happens when toxic bacteria in your mouth invade and penetrate into your gum tissues, causing bleeding and inflammation. If these nasty bugs are not stopped, they will next invade your jaw bones and now you have periodontal disease. The difference between gingivitis and periodontal disease is whether bone damage has occurred.

The critical thing to understand is that bleeding is the giant red flag warning that bacteria have invaded the gums and are causing inflammation.  It’s a red flag that often you don’t see, or you ignore, or tell yourself that it’s no big deal.

But it is a big deal, because with the proper steps, gingivitis can be reversed.  Once bacteria have invaded the bone, the damage is usually PERMANENT, leading to a lifetime of trying to manage this disease.

Gingivitis is the gateway through which you must pass to get to periodontitis, where permanent damage has occurred. You cannot go from health to periodontal disease without going through the gingivitis stage.

That’s why gingivitis is the critical stage at which to intercept this disease process. Once you move past this stage, you can never go back. It’s a one way door.

That’s why bleeding gums matter.

In the past, gingivitis has been largely ignored, and treated by patients and dentists as more of a nuisance than anything. I hear it from patients all the time –  “Sure, my gums bleed sometimes, no big deal, right?”

That casual attitude is a  mistake, because gingivitis can lead to more serious gum disease and tooth loss. Worse than that, the associated inflammation can increase your risk for diseases like cancer, heart attack, stroke, and other diseases that will kill you.

And the scary part is that people often don’t know when they have gingivitis or  how to stop it.

If you would like to find out exactly how to tell if you have inflammation, and gingivitis, I created a special report that will show you how to do that. CLICK HERE to get your report right now.
